movie

I've decided to make a movie summary I really appreciated. The goal of the summary is that you, reader, can try to find the title of this movie.

It’s a story about a wreck. The two main actors are called Jack Dawson and Rose Calvet. They are from different social background, Rose is rich but Jack is poor. Rose is Caledon Hockley’s fiancée.

Rose and Jack meet each other on a boat. During the journey they try to know each other and they will fall in love. They live a wonderful love story until the day the boat will sink. The end of the film is tragic because Jack dies near Rose. Sophie STgang

DO KAMO

I have been in Dokamo secondary school for two years . The majority of pupils are melanesian. There are pupils from differents parts of Caledonia, from the main island and from loyalty islands ; there are also vanuatu, wallis people oand europeans. It is a nice high school because we can meet new friends and discover other styles, other languages. Lessons begin at 8 am and finish at 5 am except on Wednesdays. Lessons end at 12 am. I can't say that I like everybody but some teachers can help us. To conclude, we celebrate the thirty years of the high school next september. Daina and Déborah, STgang

NEW CALEDONIA

New Caledonia is an archipelago of Oceania located in the Peaceful ocean in 1 500 km east of Australia and in 2 000 km north of New Zealand.
In my kanak culture, the clan or tribes counts much more than the individual. The ancient tribal respect for rules, which governs the life in a community and allows its harmony, is essential. It is very important to respect code of behaviour during social exchanges. For example tourists can't penetrate into t taboo places without being allowed by the chief. JF, STGang

DO KAMO

Hello! First of all I am going to introduce the location of my high school. DOKAMO high school is located in Noumea. There are a cyberbase, a dining hall, a coed boarding school, a library. To speak about the functioning , the pupils don't move for every period but the teachers do. There are more than 50 teachers, 2 secretaries, 3 directors and 3 educators. In my high school it is forbidden to smoke, to wear hats, to use mobiles. Thus during the break if you are a smoker, it is difficult to convince the teachers to let you go out. Otherwise this high school is very well. Tyffen, STGang

NEW ZEALAND

I have chosen to introduce a country I would like to visit: New-Zealand because I have friends who went there and they told me that it is superb, magnificient and splendid. ALCOHOL

My opinion on alcohol : Alcohol is very dangerous because many young people die in tragical accidents. Alcohol is bad for health and it ruins our body. Alcohol is like drugs. The young can stop going to school because of drugs( ex: cannabis) and many have problems with their family and with job in New Caledonia. Valentina, STGang

IPHONE

The Iphone is a "clever" telephone conceived by Apple. It's a small size mobile with classical functionalities of a computer such as access to Internet, multimedia and games. The telephone is rather light. There is a broad screen. But a question: is IPhone dangerous? A report showed a young man who was hurt by a sudden explosion of its Iphone. Emiliana, STGang

In my high school, there are many students coming from different villages like Canala, Houailou, Poindimié without forgetting the loyalties. I like this high school, becauseI have many friends who I like much and I consider them as members of my family.
There are many teachers who are kind and who really help us in our studies. This year I'm in a very stupid classroom . In my section, we have different subjects general and technological for example mathematics, French, English or Communication...
I don't know what I will do next year but I hope to succeed my exam for the my pride and my family. Betsy, STGang.

There are cultural events for example : "Le faré de babel" many students present poems in their mother tongue. It's a good exercice for the exam. And my high school is preparing its 30th birthday on september 30th 2009. I like my high school because the teachers go to the theatre with the students. Elvina, STGang

NEW CALEDONIA

I live in New Caledonia. New Caledonia has various cultures and languages. There are 3 provinces: south, north and loyalty islands. Our emblem is a cagou. I live in Lifou. Lifou is a small island and our language is drehu. New caledonia is a beautiful island because there are many nice long beaches and the sea is blue. There is a very long beach in Ouvea (14 kilometers).
There are 8 different costumary areas. Catherine, STGang

Canada

Among all the countries of the world, Canada is the one that I love much.
That country has large spaces, national parks because the nature has many colours, the animals are wild.
It's the country where I would like to live; for me it's a paradise ! Manuella, STGang

Sustainable Developement

Today the accepted definition is a development that meets the needs of people today without compromising the ability of future generations Sustainable development comes from the idea that not everything can continue as before, the need to address the shortcomings of a development model focused on the way we take into account new priorities. Therefore:
Maintain the integrity of the environment to ensure the health and safety of human communities and preserve the ecosystems that support life;

Ensuring social equity for the full development of all women and all men, the growth of communities and respect for diversity.

That is why it is imperative to respect our environment, because if we respect our environment, we respect our neighbors LINDSEY, LDKom

Yams

Hello, I would like to speak about cultural events in New Caledonia, precisely the yam party celebrated every year in my island, in Lifou. The yam party is a very importan tevent for the population. Lifou is like all the villages of New Caledonia, it's composed of many districts, and districts are composed of tribes. The tribes are controlled by little chief and the districts are controlled by the big chief. During the ceremony, the family of each clan brings their yams harvested for the head tribe and the head tribe brings theirs to the big chief of the district. I think that the yam party is a very very important event for us, young kanak, because this party isn't like as the other partyl(marriage, mourning...). This party allows us to know our identity, our social statut. It's very important to know that itsn't anyone who can go back to the chief village, there are persons who are authorized, otherwise they will be cursed. Rodrigue, LDKom

New Technology

New fashionable technologies are a computer, a laptop, the Internet, chatting on the net so as to connect people together, a mobile phone in order to be constantly in touch...
I firmly believe that as they have access to the Internet in their village, some craftswomen in New- Caledonia, or in Africa can advertise their works in the whole world. Audrey, LDKom

Alcohol and drugs

It seems to me that alcoholism touches a lot of people, it is destroying human values, you can be dependent and afterward lose your work...
Moreover, I believe that drugs can cause a big dependence, heart diseases, family problems.
Audrey, LDKom

ECOLOGY

In my opinion, the earth is threatened by the greenhouse effect, the pollution, the drought, the fertilizers...It is necessary to protect the wildlife and avoid damages. For example, the household wastes should be sorted into different rubbish bins. Audrey

MUSIC

Hello! I am going to speak to you about music played in my country. In my Kanak country, the music is sung in various languages everywhere in New Caledonia. I like the music coming from the Loyalty islands (Maré, Lifou, Ouvea) especially in my tribe in Mare; the band is called Nodeak. I like it very much because the leader sings their songs very well. Their songs speak about the custom and the legends. When I listen to these songs, the words make me closer to my ancestors. These words remind me that there are things which we always have to practise. Diane, LDKom

New Caledonia

MWA KA CULTURAL EVENTS IN NEW CALEDONIA

Mwâ Ka, a 12 meters monumental totem takes place in a public garden in front of the Museum of New Caledonia. Mwâ Ka means the House of Mankind, a space for discussions. It was created by the Kanak community to commemorate September 24th, namely the anniversary of the French annexation of New Caledonia in 1853. This date is a day of mourning for kanak, but in 2005 the creation of Mwâ Ka gave it a quite different meaning. The fact of raising Mwâ Ka was a special symbol to bury the sufferings associated with the French colonization, and to replace this sad anniversary by a celebration of the Kanak identity and the multiethnic nature of New Caledonia. Fiona, LDKom

PEACE

Hi! I want to speak with you about the symbol of peace because my country knew difficult moments during the period of colonization. In my opinion, the project to build a cultural center is a recognition of the Kanak and Oceanian culture; it is located on a 8 hectares ground given by the town of Noumea in 1992. Tjibaou C C was drawn by the Italian architect Renzo Piano and was inaugurated on May 4th, 1998. It is a place of self-defining affirmation and a space of meeting and cultural creation. By its original configuration, where everyone can find in the same place a center of art, a museum, a room, spaces of shows and a specialized library, the Tjibaou CC offers a multiplicity of cultural events. Stephane, LDKOM

Songs

My favorite song is WE ARE THE WORLD . "We are the World" of " the USA For Africa ". This 1985 song gathered the biggest stars of the time to help Africa and the victims of the famine.
The biggest names were Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Al Jarreau, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Paul Young, Cyndi Lauper, Ray Charles and of course Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie the authors and composers of the music. A legend! Nicole, LDKom

SPECIAL EVENT

Fun and friendly
In July at Dokamo high school the Babel house was organized. It took place between 12:05 to 12:55 pm. Anyone could recite a story, sing a song, play a short play, make the slam Candidates were volunteers. The particularity of the Babel house wasto speak in different language: English, Spanish, Drehu,Nengone, IAAI.

Paul Wamo a kanak slammer came to recite some slam.
Originally The story of the Tower of Babel, found in the Biblical book of Genesis, is one of the most famous legends of mankind. The Tower of Babel was an enormous tower built at the city of Babel by the men
speaking a single language who wanted to build it up to the sky. The Tower of Babel was not built for the worship of God. God, seeing what the people were doing, came down and confounded their languages and scattered the people throughout the earth. The story explains the origin of nations, of their languages, and of Babylon (Babel).
Cinthya, LDKom

NEW ZEALAND

I would like to visit New Zealand because there are big cities. We can ski on snow and swim with the dolphins. Beaches are long and bigger than in New Caledonia. The landscape is like the landscape in Europe. The only thing I would like to look at is the HAKA which is the traditional dance of the Maori. This dance must be amusing!! Shuanna, LDKom

Beyonce

My favorite singer is Beyonce, a few words about her: she is for me an idol because I like listening to her music (RNB..) I practice dance like everybody in my family and when I watch a dvd with Beyonce or Mickael Jackson I imagine myself dancing with them!!!I know that it's ridiculous but it's true!!! Marianne, LDKom

LIFOU

Lifou is the biggest island of loyalties in New Caledonia. The beaches are magnificent, the vegetation is very dense, the big forests, the immense caves, a very important variety of landscapes. The welcome is very good, good hotel structures as well as many activities are waiting for you there. Lifou is the most important island: its surface is big.
Located at the edge of the bay of Chateaubriand, Wé is the administrative center.
Lifou is a municipality, an administrative centre of the Province of Loyalty islands, the fifth of the territory with its population. Drehu is its name in the local language. There are three districts Wetr, Gaica and Lössi and also 37 tribes.
Odile, LDKom

DRUGS

Generally Drug is not very good for us. It destroys our body. Many persons of different ages take it. For instance those who feel bad and have problems.
They sometimes take strong drugs which are sold on the black market. But it is not a good solution; it always develops new serious illnesses.
Drug can cause the separation of families. Therefore, for me drug is a very dangerous for my health.Irène, LDKom

THE USA

I have dreamt of visiting the United States of America for a long time. It is a big country. I would like to visit the statue of liberty, to take a photo in front of the Empire State Building, and the White house, walk on the Brooklyn bridge and on Hollywood boulevard. I could also visit Reverend Luther King's town and his church. Martin Luther King is a man who fought for the civil rights and the freedom of the black people. And it's maybe thanks to him that President Barack Obama was elected last year. At last, I dream to see the concert of the singer and pianist Alicia Keys in one of the biggest concert place called Boston Symphony Hall. Emmanuelle, LDKOM

MY COUNTRY

Hello, I'm a girl from New Caledonia. In Caledonia we are called kanak but there are also people from other ethnic groups as Wallisians, Tahitians, West Indies..
We have our own culture. We do not speak the same language. Many of us have French as a second language since we live on a French territory.
We have a culinary specialty which is the bougna, yummy!! The bougna is a dish which is composed of yams, sweet potatoes, bananas, some coconut juice, with either chicken or flying fox. All is wrapped with banana leaves and put in a kanak oven. In my tribe we prefer the bougna with snake but it is always for chiefs only.
We also have traditional dances as pilou and tchap. I dance BUA which was a war dance in the past but it has survived until today. But many dances disappeared after the arrival of the missionaries.
Today's music is kaneka. Kaneka is like reggae.
My country also knew tribal wars until the arrival of the first French settlers. In the eighties political events occurred in Caledonia and a lot of blood was poured. My country wants to have its independence. Karleen, LDKom

ECOLOGY

I wish to speak of ecology because it is a great fight for everyone, this is all over the world. This concerns me much when we throw trash in the nature; we pollute our Earth. The Earth is like our mother, it is our home, it feeds us, and that is how we thank it! it's really a pity! A person can be healthy if he or she lives in a healthy environment, with a greenish nature, clean air, smelling the morning dew, to feel well, it is a joy for everybody. We depend on the Earth so we must pay attention to it. We need to respect our future and the future generations. Protect our Earth. Jeanne, LDKom

DRUGS

For me drugs are bad. They destroy our body. Drugs have action on our brain, causing a feeling of ease, pleasure. But these substances can also change our behaviour, reflex, feelings and make us dependent, so that it could get worse and worse without it. Certain drugs are lawful as tobacco and alcohol, others are forbidden as cannabis. But it isn't good for our health.
Why do we use them?
- to "live it up"
- to imitate friends
- to discover new sensations
Madeleine, LDKom

FASHION

I think that today there is too much fashion and especially among young people. There are various styles for example Gothic which seems to me a little weird. For me this style of fashion is for people who have problems because they are dressed in black all the time. There is also the reggae style . There is also the fashion of earrings, piercing, tattoos.... For me these persons who follow a fashion want to assert their identity, and belong to a group. Solange, LDKom.

movies

When I was a little girl, I liked watching cartoons on TV. As soon as I woke up in the morning I switched on TV at once. I especially liked funny cartoons as titeuf, tom tom... Today I still watch them because they remember me good memories during my childhood. Now I prefer films for young people. Especially American movies. I am crazy about Veronica Mars, Lizzie McGuire and every serial of the same kind. They tell stories that I have already lived. To entertain myself I also look at action movies starring Jacky Chan, Bruce Lee. I also like these kinds of action films. Solange, LDKom.

Leona Lewis

My favorite singer is Leona Lewis, a few words about her:
(born on April 3 ,1985 in Islington, London, United Kingdom) she is a British singer known as the winner of the third season of the show The X Factor, the English version of the New Star. It is the first British woman to top U.S. charts with Bleeding Love for You Keep Me Hangin On Kim Wilde in 1987. I love her voice, her beauty, her songs ...
She is perfect!
Cynthia, LDKOM

A BOOK

First I'm going to introduce a book. The book is written by IONESCO, the title is "La cantatrice chauve" the bald opera singer.

This story has no heroes, no acts, no action, no plot. The characters only speak with stereotypes, saying at the same time one thing and its contrary. It's a comic masterpiece. Catherine, STGang

FIDJI

Two months ago, I had the opportunity to go with my family in Fiji islands. I visited the two main towns: Suva and Lautoka. Many things really surprised me when I visited this country like:

- the prices, all what you buy are really cheaper than in New Caledonia.

And a lot of amazing things.Aligné à gaucheBut above all, what I remember is that Fijian people are friendly and humble persons and they offered me a very good hospitality. I will never forget my journey in Fiji.

And if you want to have good moment with your family, go to Fiji you will have good fun.

I have chosen New Zealand because it is the country in which the variety and the wealth of the world are concentrated. It's impressing to see it; it mainly consists of two islands: the North and the South. I would like to meet all the climates, all the landscapes, all the atmospheres. If one day, I visit New Zealand, I shall choose the Southern island and maybe after the Northern, because I surfed on sites speaking about this so beautiful country; the Southern island has a Norwegian climate, there are beutiful beaches, it's possible to ski or admire whales and swim in fjords and full of beautiful things without forgetting Maori people who are super beautiful.

Morality is not to begin smoking because you become dependent on it. Alice, LDKom

MY COUNTRY

New-Caledonia my country isn't a big country but it hides beautiful landscapes, beaches, rivers, and if you like hiking in mountains you will not be disappointed. New Caledonia offers you not only a magnificent landscape but also a diversified culture. As in every country there is a gastronomy, here our speciality is "bougna" a Kanak meal, but in NC there are many different cultures and it's possible to eat everything...
There are endemic animals like birds such as the cagou or the dogfish and the New Caledonian crow. There is an exceptional lagoon which sometimes hides mysteries. The music style in NC is influenced by the diversified cultures
. KANEKA music is the sound coming from the earth and the rhythm is done by manual instruments.
NC hides a lot of beauty even if life is not always simple... Stéphanie, LDKom

MY HIGH SCHOOL

I'm going to introduce you my secondary school. It is located in the capital of New Caledonia Noumea. Its name was given by the ancients of my country which is "DO-KAMO"; it means " the true man "in the language Ajië (Houaïlou). This name is like DO NEVA in Houailou meaning "the true country"; both are aimed at promoting the training of kanak people. In 1979, the secondary school first opened its doors. It received 54 pupils divided in two classes of 10th. 4 teachers took care of these classes, they were supervised by 2 supervisors.
Todaythere are about 500 pupils and 60 teachers. The managers are : TAROU (manager of the boarding school), KURTOVITCH Nicolas (manager of the secondary school). JF, STGang

BOOK

I read a novel written by Célestine HITIURA VAITE. She has already written three novels: “L’arbre à pain “, “Frangipanier”, “Tiare”. Among these novels I prefer “Frangipanier “because it deals with the Tahitian culture. It’s very interesting because I learnt some Tahitian words and stories about everyday life. I can compare their culture to mine. Moreover in the three novels the history of a Tahitian family is told since the meeting of twoTahitians until the birth of their daughter “Tiaré “. I like reading novels because I can escape in another world. Elvina, STGang
